THE DOGGIE SONG
© Jenny Morgan 1999

Old dog, you’s a bad dog, you never do come, when I do call
You just stand there, and give me that blank doggie stare
Then you slowly turn and walk away

Doggie old Doggie I love you so much
I love your ornery ways even though I’m actin’ tough
Doggie old Dogge don’t think I ever knew
a Doggie quite like you I love you so much

Old dog, you is an ornery dog, there you go oh oh chasin’ the kitty again
then you just stop and look up at me, shakin’ my finger at you
then you give me that doggie smile and you run away
(Now leave the kitty alone!)

            (Chorus)

I love your big black nose when it’s all cold and wet
and in the winter how you puff up like my big Chia Pet
there’s no cold day cold enough for you, you’re my doggie dream come true

Old dog, I know you hear me dog
would you look at all this gray hair you’ve given me
you know…you’ve been a hand full, ever since you was a pup in my arms
I swear you was born a little puff ball with a mind of your own
(Oh what’s a mother to do?)

            (Chorus) and then…
Doggie old Doggie don’t know what I will ever do
When the day comes I don’t have you
I love you so much…you know I love you oh so much!!

NATURE NEEDS KIDS AND KIDS NEED NATURE
© Jenny Morgan 2005

Nature needs kids, and kids need nature
From the tallest oak tree to the smallest creature
Nature needs kids, and kids need nature
Become the great student of this great teacher (Repeat)

Open your eyes; open your ears
Sit down in the middle of the forest here
Listen to the wind the birds and the trees
They’ve got a great tale to tell you and me

Nature needs kids, and kids need nature
From the tallest oak tree to the smallest creature
Nature needs kids, and kids need nature
They’re counting on us to be their protectors

So turn off the tube; turn off the games
Walk outside and make a difference today
Plant a new tree clean up a stream
Make the fishy’s home nice and clean

From the great bear to the whales of the sea
            The songbirds and the bumblebees
The tigers of the east, the rain forest too
You need them and they need you...

Nature needs kids, and kids need nature
From the tallest oak tree to the smallest creature
Nature needs kids, and kids need nature
Become the great student, become the great student
Become the great student of this great teacher...

LETTER FROM CAMP
© Jenny Morgan 2008

Dear Mom and Dad guess what?  We cooked our dinner outside
And then we slept underneath the starry sky
I learned how to lead a hike, and how to fish and swim,
And how to row the boat to the edge of the lake and back again

And I did it all by myself, I mean
I did it all on my own, I did
To think I was so scared to come here
And now I’m not ready to come home, yea, yea

You should hear how the frogs they croak when we’re closin’ our eyes
And how the stars light up the night sky
Last night I heard an owl callin’, I saw a shooting star fallin’
I don’t believe what I’m about to say
I don’t even miss my computer games...yea

I’m having the time of my life, yea
I mean I miss you all very much, I do
But I’m makin’ lots of new friends, yea
One week of this just ain’t enough

So when I get home will you take me campin’?
I’ll build the camp fire all on my own

I’m having the time of my life, yea
I mean I miss you all very much, I do
But I’m having the time of my life, yea
I don’t even miss my computer games

That’s Ursula Minor up there, that means little bear
That’s a sassafras leaf, did you know you can make sassafras tea
And that’s the j-stroke, that will bring your canoe back to shore
Don’t put too much fuel on the fire, or you won’t have a flame anymore

(repeat chorus)

INTRO TO WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY

I took a walk through my neighborhood at dusk tonight.  These first days of summer remind me so much of my childhood--the lawnmowers humming in the distance, the smell of fresh cut grass, fireflys flashing.  We'd spend all day and into the night outside--playing football, climbing trees, riding bikes, playing kick the can--my Mom couldn't drag us inside.  But you know, as I was walking tonight, I didn't see one child playing outside.  Then I realized....I rarely see children playing outside anymore.

WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY
© Cat Stevens

Well I think it's fine, building jumbo planes
Or taking a ride on a cosmic train
Switch on summer from a slot machine
Just get what you want to if you want 'Cause you can get anything

            I know we've come a long way
            We're changing day to day
But tell me, where do the children play?

Well you roll on roads over fresh green grass
For your lorry loads pumping petrol gas
And you make them long, and you make them tough
But they just go on and on, and it seems that you can't get off

            (CHORUS)

Well you've cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air
But will you keep on building higher 'Til there's no more room up there?
Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry,
Will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?

             (CHORUS)

HEY HEY ANNIE
© Jenny Morgan 1991

Hey, hey, Annie, how ‘bout we change the world
Well we can grow fields of cotton candy
How ‘bout we turn the rivers into fudge swirl
Then, all that is evil, will turn sweet and melt away
Well then you and I can stand beside the chocolate stream
And watch it turn the water wheel of goodness we’ve made

And all those little birdies will be singin’
“Let there be justice for all”
Then the down trodden creatures of this world will rise up
And all the towers of injustice will fall

Hey, hey, Annie, does it sound good to you
If we gather up all the garbage in this world
And how ‘bout we turn it into bubble gum goo
And then you and I can sit amongst all the beauty
And blow bubbles all day long
Well then we wouldn’t have to worry, no we wouldn’t worry
Why, cuz POP, all the garbage will be gone

And all those little birdies will be singin’
            “Let there be peace”
Then everybody throughout this whole wide world
Will stop to listen....shhh...and all the fighting will cease

Well, hey, hey Annie, how ‘bout we start today
Well, we can gather up all the greediness we can find
How ‘bout we turn into a game we can play
And then you and I can make up the new rules
And the first rule will be
That nobody goes without anymore, no more
Why, cuz everybody gets just what they need

And all the little birdies will be singin’
            “Let the new world begin”,
Then the floodgates will open, oh, they will open
And all the love and joy will pour in!

RAGS TO RICHES
© Jenny Morgan 2008

Welcome to the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes--the 3rd and final leg of the prestigious Triple Crown!  It’s one for the history books folks!!  Rags to Riches, that little filly with a feisty streak, is goin’ up against 6 colts today--you heard me right--it’s gonna be 6 colts and 1 feisty filly!  She’s outnumbered and it’s gonna be a battle of the sexes!  In its one hundred thirty nine year history, only 22 fillies have dared run here at Belmont....and if Rags to Riches wins today....if she beats Curlin, the hands down favorite, she’ll be the first filly to win here in over a century! Those of you who know your history might remember that sad day in 1975, when Ruffian, one of the greatest female racehorses of all time, also faced the odds here at Belmont only to die on the lead.  That “Queen of the fillies” is buried here in the infield with her nose pointed towards the finish line.  This one’s for you old girl!!

It’s one for the history books, once in a lifetime show.  One for old Ruffian, one for every little girl I know.  She’s a pretty chestnut filly with a feisty streak, who doesn’t know her place, or that she could get beat.  Though it’s been a century that a filly’s won these stakes—she’s come to face these boys, come to win this race

Oh, Rags to Riches, go girl go!  You’re the little engine that could in this big boy show
You can do it girl, we’re cheerin’ don’t you know , Rags to Riches, go girl go!!

And they’re off…oh, and the filly stumbles out of the gate, Rags to Riches getting a rocky start…..

When the gates open up, she stumbles a bit, we’re all thinkin’ now, that girl she’s out of it.  I sit back in my chair and take a deep breath, at least she came to run, you’ve got to give her that.  But in a blink of an eye she’s inchin’ her way back, comin’ round that final turn she’s tearin’ up the track.  I’ll be darn that filly has takin the lead, she don’t care what history says, look at that speed.  She don’t care what history says, look at that speed!

Here they come....around the final turn, 5 of them within 4 and a half lengths of each other.  The leader is CP West, Slews Tizzy is running out a steam.  Hard Spun and Curlin are both making their moves.  And Rags to Riches is moving up on the outside.

~And I hope every little girl watchin this little girl takes heed
And coming out of the turn, a filly is in the lead at the Belmont
~Don’t you ever let someone tell you what you can and cannot be
But Curlin is right beside her, a filly and a colt in a battle of the sexes
~Don’t you ever let someone tell you what you can and cannot be
It’s Curlin, the hands down favorite, and Rags to Riches, the feisty filly, battling it out
~Don’t you ever let someone tell you what you can and cannot be
Here they come, Curlin and Rags to Riches, nose to nose, it’s going to be very close
~Don’t you ever let someone tell you what you can and cannot be
and it’s gonna be....a filly in the Belmont, A filly in the Belmont--Rags to Riches has made history...she’s the first filly to win here in over a Century!

Rags to Riches, go girl go--You’re the little engine that could, you’re our hero!
You’ve done it girl, made history don’t you know, Rags to Riches, go girl go, go girl go, you go girl go!!

WATERFALL
© Jenny Morgan 1989

I want to be a waterfall for you and for me
I want my love and my honesty
To be as pure as the waterfall’s snowy diamond waters
I want to be a waterfall for you and for me

I want to overflow, I want to overflow
Watch me overflow, I’m gonna overflow

I want to be a butterfly for you and for me
I want to fly high and rest in a willow tree
Unafraid of a windy storm, fearless if my wing is torn
I want to be a butterfly for you and for me

I want to fly, I want to fly
Watch me fly, I’m gonna fly

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I want to be a sunrise for you and for me
I want all my warmth and my joy to be
A million golden arrows, shining on a morning dew
I want to be a sunrise for me and for you

I want to shine, I want to shine
Watch me shine, I’m gonna shine

I want to be a daisy for you and for me
I want my doubt and my insecurities
To be a petal on a daisy, part of my beauty
I want to be a daisy for you and for me

I want to glow, I want to glow
            Watch me overflow......
            I’m gonna fly.......
            Watch me shine.......
            I’m gonna glow........glow!

SEEDS OF LOVE AND HOPE
© Jenny Morgan 2008

Fly little bird into the sky
Drop these seeds o’er the fields you fly
For here are the seeds of love and hope
Fly little bird into the sky

Fly, fly, fly up, fly high little birdie now
Fly, fly, fly up, fly high little birdie now....fly.......

Grab your rakes and grab your plows
Follow the bird where ere she flies
Down into the valley, across the towns
Until the seeds find fertile ground

            (Chorus)

Sow the seeds of love and hope, sow the seeds of love and hope
Sow the seeds of love and hope, sow the seeds of love and hope
Sow the seeds of love and hope

Sow the seeds of love and hope
Then pray for rain and for the sun to shine
Nurture the seedlings as they grow
Then pray once more for the wind to blow

            (Chorus)
            (Instrumental)

Now all the land is covered with seed
There’ll be no more hunger, war, or greed
We give our thanks to the bird on high
And to the beautiful wings that make her fly
to the beautiful wings that make her fly
to the beautiful wings that make her fly
to the beautiful wings that make her fly

DOWN A WINDING ROAD
© Jenny Morgan 1999

Down a winding road, just past Sugar Grove
Beside a Clear Creek stream, where the whippoorwill sing
That’s where you’ll find my heart, that’s where you can lay me down
Down a winding road, just past Sugar Grove

You’ll never see the stars shine so bright
And if you stay up late enough you’ll hear owls callin into the night
Or maybe you can watch the full moon risin’ above the pine trees
As you sit with your friends on the shore of Lake Atagahi

            (CHORUS)

Now for some these hills are a refuge, a kind of a saving grace
As for me I feel more alive here than I do any other place
Eighty years of history echo between these rocks
I’d love to hear all the stories if only these trees could talk

            (CHORUS) (2x)

HOME TO OHIO
© Jenny Morgan 1999

Up ‘till now the path I’ve tread has led me far from home
But I guess I needed to have walked it to have grown
Well I guess that you could say that I’ve been searchin’ for myself
I guess this path has led me to the garden I have sown
The garden I have sown, sown, sown, sown, the garden I have sown
The garden I have sown, now I’m comin’ home

Back to Ohio, back to the Buckeye state
Back to my 4 big brothers and Mama and I can hardly wait
It’s been 7 long, long years since I have been gone
Now I’m goin’ home to Ohio, back where I belong
O-H-I-O...back to where the cardinal sings, and the buckeye trees grow
            O-H-I-O....Mama I’m comin’ home, I’m comin’ home...here I come....

Well livin’ on the east coast I’ve had my ups and downs
That friendly down home kind of feeling is something I never found
When I’d say:  “Hi, how ya doin?” people look at me kind of strange
Well that’s just one more reason why I am homeward bound
I’m homeward bound, bound, bound, bound...I’m homeward bound
I’m homeward bound....Oh what a pretty sound

            (CHORUS)
*(Back to where the corn grows high, and people greet you when you walk by)

So bye bye to all the friends I’ve met along the way
Well I promise I’ll be back to visit all of you some day
I promise I will keep you all livin’ in my heart
And if you ever venture west...well hey you’ve got a place to stay
You’ve got a place to stay, stay, stay, stay....you’ve got a place to stay
You’ve got a place to stay....cuz I’m on my way

(CHORUS)

CHILD AGAIN
© Jenny Morgan 1991

I want to feel the world like a child feels once again
I want to sit on my Mama’s lap, and play dress up and pretend
I want to crawl on the ground and make funny sounds
And giggle with all my friends
I want to twirl around on the merry go round while hopin’ it never ends

I want someone to hold me, I want someone to tell me that everything’s alright
And that there’s no such thing as the boogie man, or monsters lurking in the night
And when I cry and there’s no reason why, well that will be ok
Cuz there’ll be someone there to dry my tears and have comforting words to say

I want to see the world through the eyes of child once again
Then Mom and Dad could live forever, we’d always be together
And my life would never end
Well I’d believe what people say as if there’s no way anyone could tell a lie
And I’d believe in make believe and on Christmas Eve I wouldn’t want to shut my eyes

I’d be too young for bad news, too young to tie my own shoes
Too young to know right from wrong
Young enough to hold the hand of my best friend as we go skippin’ along
And when I’d get hurt, I’d hide my head in my shirt and I would scream out my misery
I wouldn’t need to explain because I couldn’t explain all the feelings inside of me

I want to feel the world like a child feels hey, how ‘bout you
We could play hide and seek, we could trick or treat, or have a slumber party for two
We could make mud pies in the rain, or Play-doh planes, and we could fly away
So come on what do ya say, can you come out and play
With me for a couple of days

THE BLUE LIGHT
© Jenny Morgan 2008

I like to sit in the blue light, the blue light is my friend
I wouldn’t care if I never got up, or went outside again
I got my games, I got my chips, I’ve got to win whatever the cost
I like to sit in the blue light, with all the lights turned off....

mmmm  mmmm

This is my world, it’s all I know, it’s made of steel and concrete
There ain’t much green, and the air is mean, and there’s danger in the streets
I want to go to a place where I can lay down in the grass and
Dream, dream, dream
This is my world it’s all I know, it’s made of

Steel and concrete
Steel and concrete
Steel and concrete...
(Instrumental)

LEAVE NO CHILD INSIDE
© Jenny Morgan 2008

Leave no child leave no child
Leave no child, leave no child
Leave no child, leave no child.......INSIDE!

The time has come, the time is now
To get our children back outside somehow
Into the open air, where nature lives
And give back to our children all that nature has to give
We will leave no child inside
We will leave no child inside

“Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, says wonder is the most important word in his book.  The wonder in that moment when you were 3 or 4 and went out into the backyard...crawled out into the weeds, and found a rock and turned it over....
and found that you are not alone in the universe, you are not alone in the universe, you are not alone in the universe”….

And we will leave no child INSIDE

We’re waking up, we’ve heard the call
Now take that little hand and walk it down the hall
And out the door, into a world of green
And help them find a quiet place to wonder and dream
We will leave no child inside (x3)

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better” (Albert Einstein)
“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin” (William Shakespeare)
“Those who dwell among the beauty and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life” (Rachel Carson)
“Man’s heart away from nature becomes hard” (Standing Bear)
“The voice of nature is always encouraging” (Henry David Thoreau)

The wind, and the rain, and the flowers, and the trees,
And the sun, and the sky, and the water, and the bees
And the frogs, and the birds, and the fish, and the earth
And me, and me, and me, and me!!!

A FREE AND GENTLE SPIRIT
Written by Kitty Morgan 1978
© Jenny Morgan 2008

A free and gentle spirit
Happened by one day
Bringing joy and laughter
We knew somehow she’d stay

Many seasons passed
And all the while
She watched us as we grew
Now I look and she’s gone away

So run through those fields old girl
            Play in the sun
            We know your time
            Has not ended now
We know it has only begun

I lie awake at night
Wondering why
I wonder with each passing day
I still don’t know why
She left us on that day
But the love that she brought
Will always stay
Yes the love that you brought
Will always stay

So run through those fields old girl
            Play in the sun
We know your time has not ended now
We know it has only begun
Yes, we know it has only begun
We know it has only begun....

THE RAINBOW CONNECTION
© Ascher/Williams

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what’s on the other side
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions
Rainbows have nothing to hide
So we’ve been told, and some choose to believe it
I know they’re wrong wait and see

Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it
Look what it’s done so far
And what’s so amazing, that keeps us star gazing
And what do you think we might see...CHORUS

All of us under its spell--we know that it’s probably magic...

Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices
I’ve heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors
The voice might be one in the same
I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it
   There’s something that I’m supposed to be…CHORUS
